The archive was founded in 1965 by a group of the town's citizens, and since then has collected photos, portraits, documents and association and business protocols related to Brønderslev.

The archive also contains a large collection of newspapers, bound or otherwise. as clippings, the oldest of which date from 1894. In addition to stated opening times, guided tours can be arranged by appointment.
