Klokkerholm Møllesø

Distance: 156.68 Km

Klokkerholm Møllesø is with its approx. 10 ha the largest lake in Vendsyssel.

The lake is surrounded by a scenic protected area, which has a rich bird life, and you can often spot swans in the lake.

There is a well-maintained nature trail around the entire lake, which is approx. 2,5 km long. A trot here can be taken by both adults and children. The trip lasts approx. 1 hour.

In all probability, the lake has its origins as an ice age lake, and for centuries a mill was located at the western end of the lake, which was driven by the water from the "mill pond". The "mill pond" was drained in 1914 to the great annoyance of many of the area's residents. For many years, work was done to re-establish the lake, and it was successful in 1979. After 65 years of draining, Klokkerholm Møllesø was re-established.

The lake is located just outside Klokkerholm town, whose area offers numerous burial mounds and a fine church, Hellevad Church. In the area you will also find the burial mound track, which takes you past 11 different burial mounds. South of Klokkerholm, Stentinget Byrhøj offers exciting stories from the Late Iron Age and the Viking Age.

At Klokkerholm Møllesø there is an information card with a brochure holder, which is regularly filled up by the locals. By the lake is also a shelter site with campfire site, toilet and running water.

It is allowed to fish in the western part of the lake according to special regulations.
