Near Aalborg lies one of Denmark's unique historical monuments, Lindholm Høje. Two landmark historical eras meet here and, due to the northern Jutland climate, have been preserved for posterity.

On Lindholm Høje, burials and settlements from both the Germanic Iron Age and the Viking Age have been found, including 682 graves and 150 shipwrecks. North of the burial site was the associated village, of which, among other things, houses, fences, wells and cooking pits have been found.

The area was plagued by sand drift, and around the year 1000, the flying sand completely covered the burial site, whereby stone formations and a newly plowed field were preserved for the benefit of archaeologists and visitors to Lindholm Høje.

Lindholm Hoje Museum

In the associated museum, Lindholm High Museum, you will find two archaeological exhibitions about the Iron Age and the Viking Age, which, via today's media effects and the archaeological finds of the past, show how the people on Lindholm lived at home as well as traded and traveled abroad.

For those interested, it is possible to order guided tours with different subject areas. Further information can be requested at North Jutland Museums or on tel. 99 31 74 40, where you can also book a tour.
