Sea moss

Distance: 158.78 Km

Unique nature, a good excursion place and former home for jugglers and other good people: The adventurous Sømose is just waiting to be discovered!

Beautiful nature with an exciting history

Sømosen is a raised bog located between the high hills in Jyske Ås in the southern part of Dronninglund Storskov.

The sea bog forms the southernmost part of Jyske Ås and is described as an idyllic natural gem with open water and a hanging bag on the bog bottom as well as dense reed forest and down hammers by the bank. A trampled path leads you all the way around Sømosen. Along the way there are tables and benches where you can enjoy a brought food basket to the beautiful view of the lake.

At the same time, Sømosen carries an exciting story about past people's lives and is definitely worth a visit.

The car park at Sømosen can be used for the walking route. You will find it on the left hand side on Kirkevej in the southern part of Dronninglund Storskov.

The history of the sea moss

You can not see it if you do not know it, but Sømosen's hills were around the year 1900 home to a number of rushing people.

Sømosen was at that time an inhospitable place, where the local inhabitants only came to dig peat in the spring. Therefore, the place attracted a group of people who wanted to be themselves. The inhabitants of the sea bog, the travelers, lived in the winter in primitive huts along the north side of the bog, and to this day you can still see the outline of the small earth huts in several places. The remains from that time testify to a special and exciting period in Sømosen's history.
