The landscape in the area here is very hilly and varied. It is described as a mosaic of forest, fields, bogs, small lakes, pastures and heather-clad hills. The mosaic arose from an interplay between the natural conditions, which were created way back in the ice age. Between Grevsmosen and Slettingen there are heath hills, which in the past robbers and herdsmen used as a place to live, and many of the old highways are still well preserved. In the area you can even still find remnants of the earth caves where the robbers lived.

The area hides many cultural-historical traces and hidden treasures. Explore, for example, the long dolmen at Fejborg Bakke, which dates back to the Stone Age. From here and several other places in the area there are beautiful views of Jyske Ås and large parts of Vendsyssel.

The protected area is connected by a 32 km long bike and footpath from Dronninglund to Østervrå.
