Hærvejen in Brønderslev Municipality

The military route is a joint Nordic project which was inaugurated in May 2014. The routes on Hærvejen are believed to be traceable back 4000 years. However, the routes were only confirmed in writing at the beginning of the Middle Ages, when Hærvejen functioned as a common main artery through the whole of Jutland.

The western part

The western part of the Hærvejs hiking route turns towards the middle of Vendsyssel from Blokhus and Hune by the North Sea in the south and from Børglum Kloster in the north.

Here the route goes through Brønderslev Municipality by Manna and the scenic area Thise Bakker as well as historical This Church.

The eastern part

The eastern part of the Vendsyssel Hærvejs hiking route starts in Aalborg and continues via Hammer Bakker through Ørum, Klokkerholm, Allerup Bakker, Pajhede Skov and further north to Frederikshavn.

Along the eastern Hærvejs hiking route you will pass the beautiful protected area at Fejborg Bakke, Grevsmosen and Bollebakken as well as the idyllic Pajhede Skov and Nymølle Bæk and Søheden Forest Complex; both are parts of Jyske Ås.
