Dronninglund Storskov and Sømosen

Distance: 159.82 Km

Nature experiences out of the ordinary

With its 961 ha, Dronninglund Storskov offers a nature experience beyond the ordinary. The forest, which is characterized by coniferous and deciduous forest, has a large selection of marked walks, both for children and adults. In the forest, there are also many traces from the past, for example the Trollstone, which is a remnant from the Ice Age. Vendsyssel's highest point with its 136 meters above sea level, Knøsen, can also be found in the large forest.

In the forest, a fun phenomenon occurs, where the laws of nature are completely out of play. At a very specific place in the forest (Storskovvej 14-18) you can experience the Enchanted Hill, where the water runs uphill instead of downhill. The phenomenon can be especially experienced on a bicycle. If you drive in neutral downhill, it is necessary to step on the pedals, so as not to stop while you can drive on freewheel uphill. A very special phenomenon that the whole family can experience in the big forest.

Sea moss

Sømosen is a raised bog located between the high hills in Jyske Ås in the southern part of Dronninglund Storskov.

The sea bogs carry an exciting story of past people's lives and are definitely worth a visit.

Up until the last century, the slopes by the bog were home to over 40 families, all of whom were marketers, artists, jokers or musicians. These families were attracted to the desolate location of the bog and settled in primitive huts and earth caves, where they lived in the winter. In the summer, they toured the country and performed.
The car park on Kirkevej can be used for the walking route.
