Søheden Skov and Lunken

Distance: 165.37 Km

With its 42 ha, the forest area is one of the largest in Brønderslev Municipality.

The nature area Søheden Skov is a beautiful association of Søheden Plantage, owned by Brønderslev Municipality, and the Danish Nature Agency's forest property Lunken. This amalgamation, which collectively goes by the name Søheden Skov, is a true adventure of varied, hilly nature, where you meet both forest and open areas in Jyske Ås.

The area was renovated in the period 2011-15 with a focus on offering good facilities for the family forest trip and the quiet forest walker. In 2014, the forest was protected.

The Søheden forest complex lies approximately 15 km north of Brønderslev and forms the northernmost part of Jyske Ås. Just south of Søheden and Lunken lie Pajhede Forest and Nymølle Brook

Lunken houses i.a. Brønderslev Naturskole Lunken og Herberg, where many events are held all year round.

Experience the Troll Tree

Out in Lunken you can also experience Tree of the Year 2019: The Troll Tree. The old yarrow has roots that are more than 150 years old. A beetle is a beech tree that has been cut down several times. The soil around the roots of the tree has gradually been removed, but the roots continued further and further down. The tree now stands on stilts and it is possible for children to crawl under the tree. Today, the tree is an irresistible invitation for all healthy children to take a climb and then a walk under the tree. It is an experience that is only found in a few places in the country, and brings to mind trolls and adventures. Not only children are impressed by this distinctive rattle. Everyone who comes by and sees the tree stops and asks wondering: "How can this be done" or says: "It's amazing".

Accommodation in Lunken

Pack your sleeping bag and spend the night in the three beautiful new shelters on the hill next to the nature school. Here you can cook over a campfire, and there is plenty of opportunity to see the night sky unfold across the square. Here is a fire place, table and bench set and at the nature school you will find toilet facilities. Listen to the trees and the many animals that live in the forest. A trip in Lunken is a trip for the senses!

If an overnight stay is not the thing, there is also plenty of opportunity to go for a walk in the forest on one of the area's many marked hiking trails. There are both nature trails and easily accessible trails, and the North Jutland part of the hiking route Army road takes a leap through Søheden Skov. Søheden and Lunken are an obvious place for the whole family, and the playground offers opportunities for play for the little ones.
